The Death of Lynyrd Skynyrd
Lynyrd Skynyrd put out their first album "Pernounced" in 1973, and put out their last album "Street Survivors" in 1977.
Only four years of rock, and it was over. Lynyrd Skynyrd had a ConVair 200, which is a multi-engine airplane. The plane
had a problem with an engine and in order to get it fixed, it had to be flown to get repairs. The band decided to go with
the plane, although some of the members were reluctant to go, the did anyways. While in flight the bad engine gave out and
the plane started to go down. Now, the plane could have glided saftly to the ground if the pilots hadn't accidently droped
all the fuel, and if there was a place to land. But luck wasn't on their side, and the plane crashed, killing three of the
band members. The dead included Steve Gains, a guitarist. His sister Cassie Gains, a backup singer. And, Ronnie Van Zant,
the lead vocalist. Ronnie was credited as the reason why Lynyrd Skynyrd got to be so successful, and many said that
Ronnie was Lynyrd Skynyrd. Then, in 1990, the writter of "Free Bird," guitarist Allen Collins dies. He was credited
as the best guitarist that Lynyrd Skynyrd had. Then, about 11 years later another death, this time it was the bass player
Leon Wilkeson. He died of complecations of cance. All in all, a lot of great tallent was lost over that stretch of time, but
their legacy still lives on.
